Carrier setup and vetting for new brokers

Updated October 2026

Carrier vetting protects you, your shipper and your bond.

Collect

The carrier's operating authority and safety information, a certificate of insurance naming you as certificate holder, a W-9, and a signed broker-carrier agreement.

Check

Active authority, insurance that meets the load's needs, contact details that match the FMCSA record, and any red flags. Re-check regularly; authority and insurance can change.
